Places for People has appointed groundworks contractors to a £246m framework covering 13 regional lots across England and Scotland, with Coinford Central and RJ McLeod securing the widest spread of places.

Each of Coinford Central and RJ McLeod landed positions on six of the 13 lots. M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co each picked up four lots. Other winners named by Places for People include MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O’Halloran & O’Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering.

The framework’s regional structure spans the North West, Yorkshire, the West Midlands, the Central East, the South East, the South West, Greater London and Scotland. The North West lot covers Lancashire, Manchester and Merseyside. Yorkshire is split as South and West Yorkshire, while the Central West lot covers the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Warwickshire.

In the Central East, the lot covers Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. The South East is divided into a southern lot covering Surrey, Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex, and an eastern lot covering Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex.

The South West has three lots: north Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire; south Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset; and west Bristol, Devon and Somerset. Greater London forms its own lot. Scotland is divided into a Central Belt lot, a North 1 lot covering the Aberdeen area only, and a North 2 lot for which the detailed area is not specified in the published information.

Work under the framework ranges from site clearance, bulk earthworks and foundations to drainage, utilities, roads, sewers and external works. For Scottish packages, the scope also covers house foundations through to completed in-situ concrete floors, plot drainage, retaining wall foundations and ducting for electric vehicle infrastructure.

Greater London is the largest regional package at around £38m. It is followed by the Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset package at £30m, while East Anglia and the northern Home Counties account for a further £29m.

The lot awards give Places for People a roster of groundworks specialists across multiple regions, with some contractors positioned in a single area and others covering a broader spread. Coinford Central and RJ McLeod’s six-lot coverage makes them the most widely placed firms on the framework, while the four-lot awards to M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co also give those contractors a multi-region presence.

The published award list shows a mix of contractors across the 13 lots. Alongside the most widely placed firms, the lineup includes MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O’Halloran & O’Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering, among others named in the lot allocations.
